Ekiti 2026: Eight govs, NASS leaders head APC campaign council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assembled a formidable National Campaign Council for the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election, appointing eight governors and key leaders from the National Assembly to spearhead its campaign. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been named the chairman of this influential council, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio set to serve as vice chairman.

The council's composition, as disclosed by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, includes a broad spectrum of the party's top echelon. It features governors, ministers, federal lawmakers, and other significant political stakeholders from across the nation. Notable members include Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and governors Hope Uzodimma, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Babagana Zulum, Dapo Abiodun, Ahmed Aliyu, Mohammed Bago, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and ex-Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello are also listed as members, alongside ministers Dele Alake, Sunday Dare, and Bunmi Tunji-Ojo. The party has further established strategic sub-committees to manage various aspects of the campaign, including Election Planning and Management, Finance and Resource Mobilisation, Media and Publicity, Security, and Women and Youth Mobilisation.

The APC emphasized that the council's formation underscores the importance the party places on the Ekiti governorship election, scheduled for June 20, 2026. The party expressed confidence in the council's collective leadership capacity, political experience, and mobilization strength to secure victory. This election is seen as a crucial test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the party seeks to maintain its dominance in Ekiti politics.
