Elderly couple dies in Recoleta house fire

A devastating house fire in Recoleta, Chile, claimed the lives of two elderly adults on Saturday evening. The victims, believed to be between 70 and 80 years old, were residents of the home located at Avenida El Guanaco with Cerro La Región. Preliminary information gathered from neighbors suggests the couple suffered from Alzheimer's disease and were alone in the house when the fire broke out.

It is presumed that the rapid spread of the flames trapped the residents inside the dwelling, leading to their deaths in one of the hallways. The intensity of the fire also caused damage to two neighboring homes, although the impact on these adjacent properties was reportedly minor. Carabineros Lieutenant Daniel Pizarro confirmed the extent of the damage and stated that the fire has been controlled by firefighters, who remain on site to cool the area before an investigation can begin.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, and while the immediate danger has passed, the scene is now awaiting the arrival of the Servicio Médico Legal (SML) to recover the victims' remains. The SML will conduct further examinations as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the tragic incident. The community is mourning the loss of the elderly couple, with neighbors sharing details about their condition and the circumstances surrounding the fire.
