Elderly driver charged after cyclist dies in collision in Norway

An 80-year-old woman faces charges after a collision in Nordre Follo, Norway, resulted in the death of a cyclist on Friday.

The victim, a man in his 40s from Oslo, was riding with a group of cyclists when the accident happened on Gamle Mossevei shortly after 5 p.m. Police have taken blood samples from the woman and seized her car for further examination.

Initial investigations suggest the suspicion against the woman may be weakening, according to police. However, the case remains under active investigation. Due to the number of individuals involved, a detailed reconstruction of the event is expected to take time.

Other cyclists in the group reportedly escaped unharmed. Police technicians and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's accident investigation unit conducted on-site examinations. The road was closed for a period following the accident but reopened before midnight after all agencies concluded their work.
