Elderly driver dies after crashing into tractor with hidden lights

A tragic accident on Provincial Route 77 in Argentina claimed the life of a 76-year-old man when his car collided with a tractor. The fatal impact occurred near the Santa Irene locality when the victim's Volkswagen Voyage struck the rear of a Deutz tractor. The tractor was transporting a double-pronged trailer loaded with hay bales, which completely covered the vehicle's rear lights. This obstruction reportedly prevented the elderly driver from seeing the tractor in time.

The force of the collision caused one of the trailer's prongs to pierce the car's windshield, striking the driver's head and causing immediate death. The victim was a resident of Miramar, a town located a short distance from the accident site.

The tractor driver, identified as D.R., a 21-year-old rural worker also from Miramar, has been detained. A prosecutor has charged him with negligent homicide. National traffic laws prohibit the operation of agricultural machinery on public roads at night without proper safety and signaling equipment, which could lead to an aggravated sentence for the young driver.
