Elderly driver rescued after SUV plunges into sea at South Korean port

A 70-year-old woman was rescued on Saturday after her SUV fell into the sea near Seogwipo Port in South Korea. The incident occurred around 5:19 p.m. on July 11th, when the vehicle, driven by the woman identified as Ms. A, plunged into the waters off the third pier in Seogwipo City.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Two rescuers from the Jeju 119 Special Response Team successfully extracted Ms. A from the submerged vehicle. They achieved this by breaking a rear window and forcing open the car doors.

Ms. A was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, her condition is not life-threatening, and she is reported to be stable. A fire department official suggested the accident may have occurred while the driver was attempting to park near the breakwater for fishing purposes.

Both the police and the coast guard are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause. The incident highlights the dangers of driving near coastal areas, especially for elderly drivers.
