Elderly Driver Trapped Under SUV After Scooter Crash in Kaohsiung; Rescued by Bystanders

A 70-year-old woman suffered injuries after her scooter collided with two cars, trapping her beneath an SUV in Kaohsiung's Yancheng District on Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when the woman, identified as Chen, was riding her scooter eastbound on Wufu 4th Road. She reportedly rear-ended a car driven by a 44-year-old woman, identified as Li. Chen and her scooter then slid forward, crashing into a white SUV driven by a 30-year-old man, identified as Zhang.

Chen became pinned under the SUV as a result of the collision. Bystanders quickly came to her aid, and upon the arrival of firefighters and police, they collaborated to move the vehicle and rescue her. She was subsequently transported to the hospital, where she was treated for bruises to her limbs. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police reported that Chen showed a slight alcohol reaction, though it did not reach the legal limit. Further tests were affected by her injuries. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident and will conduct a full interview with Chen once she is discharged from the hospital to determine legal responsibility.
