Elderly Man Drowns in Melaka River

An elderly man was found drowned in the Melaka River on Thursday, near the Casa del Rio Hotel. The victim, believed to be in his 70s, was discovered around 11:45 AM, not far from where he was reported missing.

Upon arrival at the location at 10:16 AM, the team was informed that a man was believed to have fallen into the Melaka River around 5:45 AM.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 10:10 AM. A team of 12 personnel, including a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), was dispatched to the scene, approximately six kilometers from the station.

Upon arrival at 10:16 AM, the team learned that the man had likely fallen into the river around 5:45 AM. Initial information at the scene included the discovery of personal belongings near the riverbank, believed to belong to the victim. A search operation was conducted in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

At 11:45 AM, the victim was found not far from the location where he was believed to have fallen into the river.

The search efforts involved reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area and surface water searches. The man was successfully located at 11:45 AM. Firefighters and police then worked to bring the body ashore, awaiting confirmation of death from the Ministry of Health. The operation concluded without significant issues and was handed over to the police for further action.
