Elderly Man's Attempt to Visit Actress at Hospital Causes Stir

An unusual incident unfolded at Attikon Hospital when a 93-year-old man attempted to enter the facility late Wednesday night, claiming to be a relative of actress Maro Kontou and seeking to visit her. Kontou is currently hospitalized at the institution.

The elderly man, who resides alone in the Agios Panteleimonas area, was found to be carrying a knife during a security check. He explained to MEGA TV that he always carries a knife due to fear for his safety in his neighborhood. "I always carry a knife. I didn't have it for anything bad. I was walking at night, I intended to return. They told me 'now she's in the internal medicine ward.' I might have found her outside. As soon as I arrived, everyone surrounded me. I am an orphan from my mother and father. My father was from Constantinople," he stated.

According to reports, the man, wearing a hat and carrying a potted plant, entered the hospital unnoticed around 10 p.m. and headed towards the cardiology clinic where Kontou is admitted. A nurse noticed him wandering the halls and questioned his presence. The nurse also observed something protruding from the man's back pocket.

A private security guard intervened, disarming the 93-year-old. The guard recounted that the man claimed to be a cousin and insisted on reaching Kontou's room. The guard escorted the man outside the main hospital area and contacted the police. The knife was found in a bag the man was carrying. The guard noted the man appeared unwell. Hospital officials decided not to inform Maro Kontou of the incident to avoid causing her distress during her hospitalization.
