Elderly man, son arrested with four guns in Bayelsa

Authorities in Bayelsa State, Nigeria, have apprehended a 68-year-old man and his son for allegedly possessing four single-barrel guns. The suspects, identified as Tibi Friday and his son Oyabrade Tibi, were intercepted on Monday along the Igbogene-Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa.

The suspects were travelling in a tricycle to Abua in neighbouring Rivers State when they were stopped and searched.

Operatives from the Police Anti-Vice Unit made the arrest during a routine stop-and-search operation. The police reported that the suspects were traveling in a tricycle towards Abua in neighboring Rivers State when they were stopped. During the search, officers discovered four single-barrel guns concealed within a sack and covered with sticks.

According to DSP Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the suspects were en route to Abua when the firearms were found. The command is actively working to determine the source of the weapons and identify any other individuals involved.
