Eldik Bank Becomes First Kyrgyz Bank to Sign Accord with Tencent (WeChat)

Eldik Bank has inked a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding with Tencent, the company behind WeChat. This partnership makes Eldik Bank the first and only financial institution in Kyrgyzstan to establish such an agreement with the expansive WeChat ecosystem.

The collaboration marks a significant step in the growing economic and digital ties between Kyrgyzstan and China. It aims to create a unified, seamless payment environment by integrating QR payment systems. Kyrgyz users of the Eldik app will be able to pay for goods and services in China, while WeChat Pay users will be able to make payments within Kyrgyzstan.

Beyond QR payments, the two entities are exploring cross-border transfers and settlements using national currencies, including the Chinese yuan. This move is particularly relevant given the increasing trade volume between the two nations. The partnership is expected to provide Eldik Bank with access to advanced fintech solutions and international expertise in digital payments, laying the groundwork for a long-term strategic alliance.

This will allow users of the Eldik application to pay for goods and services in China, and WeChat Pay users to make familiar payments in Kyrgyzstan, creating a single seamless payment environment for citizens, tourists, and businesses.

Eldik Bank's board member, Aidzhan Karieva, is currently attending the Shaanxi Silk Road Expo, where she is presenting the bank's activities and investment potential. The visit also included meetings with China Construction Bank to discuss joint solutions for businesses in both countries. Kyrgyzstan is solidifying its role as a hub for regional cooperation in Central Asia, with Eldik Bank positioned as a key financial partner bridging Kyrgyzstan and China.
