Electoral board extends deadline for political party membership registration by 30 days

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has granted a 30-day extension for political parties, groups, and movements to submit their updated membership lists. The new deadline is now September 2, with organizations required to finalize and submit the necessary documentation to the General Secretariat by 4:00 PM.

This extension was granted after the Permanent Forum of Political Parties of the Dominican Republic (Fopppredom) submitted a request. The original deadline was August 3. The JCE's decision aims to provide parties with more time to comply with the regulations established for the registration and de-registration of members.

The JCE approved a new regulation in February to combat issues such as unauthorized affiliations and duplicate registrations. This regulation requires parties to present their membership rosters, which will be reviewed by the JCE's IT and Political Parties departments. Only citizens registered with a single political organization will be recognized as valid. Voters listed with multiple parties will be marked as "inactive," with an appeals process available for those affected.

If a citizen's ID number appears in more than one party's registry, they will also be classified as "inactive." Individuals wishing to appeal this status must present their credentials and biometric data, along with supporting physical evidence, to the JCE.
