Electronic Flower Car Crashes in Changhua, Damaging Utility Pole and Bus Stop

An unusual accident occurred in Changhua County early on August 27, when an electronic flower car crashed, causing significant damage to public infrastructure. The vehicle struck and broke a utility pole and a bus stop sign along Changhsin Road in Shengang Township, near the side entrance of Datong Elementary School.

The incident, which happened around 4 a.m., initially led residents to suspect a hit-and-run due to the immediate aftermath. However, the 32-year-old driver, identified by the surname Huang, eventually reported to a police station later that morning, claiming he was responsible for the collision.

While the driver has admitted fault and pledged to cover the repair costs, his delayed reporting has drawn scrutiny. County Councilor Lai Ching-mei expressed suspicion, suggesting the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and urged police to conduct a thorough investigation. The driver has been cited for failing to handle the accident according to regulations, facing a fine between NT$1,000 and NT$3,000.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby private cameras to reconstruct the sequence of events. The damaged utility pole and bus stop sign have been temporarily moved aside, and relevant authorities, including Chunghwa Telecom and the road management unit, have been contacted to facilitate repairs.
