Electronic music festival brings 38 overseas acts and international visitors to Miaoli village

MIRAGE FESTIVAL 2026 turned a rural farming area in Zhuolan Township, Miaoli County, into an international electronic music venue, with 38 of its 44 acts coming from overseas.

More than 500 visitors from France, Germany, the United States, Australia, Japan and South Korea traveled to the mountain town for the festival at the Lixiping Recreation Farming Area. Local officials said the event marked a shift for Miaoli’s “golden rural villages,” from taking part in international exchanges abroad to welcoming the world into the countryside.

The festival also moved beyond the area’s traditional reliance on fruit-picking trips and family tours. It attracted a cross-border younger audience, while older local residents joined in, showcasing interaction across generations.

Officials said the priority now is to keep the benefits in the community through local lodging, restaurants and agricultural products. The Nature Circle site, for example, hosted 68 corporate bookings this year, a 40% increase.

Miaoli Agriculture Department Director Chen Shu-yi said the county did not want every rural community to copy a music festival. Instead, it wants each village to find a reason that makes visitors come deliberately. Young people will bring new ideas and international networks into local agriculture and tourism, he said, helping rural communities capture international business.
