Elks host Riders to complete home-and-home series

Cody Fajardo delivered a career-defining performance, throwing for 510 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Edmonton Elks to a dramatic 36-34 road victory against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. This thrilling win, sealed by Vincent Blanchard's 57-yard field goal as time expired, marked the Elks' third consecutive triumph and handed the defending Grey Cup champions a narrow defeat.

Fajardo's aerial assault made him the first CFL quarterback since 2017 to surpass 500 passing yards in a single game. The Elks' offense amassed 526 net yards, showcasing their explosive potential. Receiver Austin Mack was a significant contributor, recording four catches for 173 yards and two touchdowns, including crucial second-half receptions of 57 and 81 yards. Teammate T.J. Luther also had a strong showing with 10 receptions for 157 yards.

Despite the loss, Saskatchewan's offense showed resilience. Quarterback Trevor Harris completed 26 of 36 passes for 386 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Kian Schaeffer was a standout receiver for the Riders, hauling in eight catches for a game-high 186 yards and a touchdown. Saskatchewan's offense also converted 13 of 23 second-down opportunities.

However, the Riders may face challenges with the potential absence of running back A.J. Ouellette, who left the game with a knee injury after rushing for 52 yards on 12 carries. Saskatchewan's defense, previously ranked among the CFL's best, will need to make adjustments after allowing significant yardage. The Elks, now 3-0 at home, aim to clinch the season series against Saskatchewan, a feat they haven't achieved since 2016.
