Elon Musk has declared that his AI tool, Grok Imagine, will produce a feature-length film adaptation of Homer's "Odyssey" by the end of 2026, promising it will be "historically accurate" and faithful to the original work. This ambitious project comes after Musk publicly criticized Christopher Nolan's recent film adaptation.

The announcement was accompanied by a three-minute video created by the "Heavy Pulp" account using Grok Imagine, showcasing a scene with Odysseus and the nymph Calypso. Musk shared this demonstration on X, emphasizing the AI's potential for cinematic creation.

Details on what Musk means by "historically accurate" are scarce. "The Odyssey" is an ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer, believed to have originated around the 8th century BCE. While it depicts events following the Trojan War, the narrative is rich with mythological elements, including gods, a cyclops, sirens, and the sorceress Circe, who transforms Odysseus's companions into pigs.

Musk's critique of Nolan's film, which was released on July 17, has been notable. He previously accused Nolan of being "anti-white racist" for casting Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, and also supported transphobic posts targeting Elliot Page. Nolan, in turn, dismissed pre-release criticisms as "irrelevant," stating that adaptations should respect the original text by interpreting it in the most powerful way possible.
