Elon Musk Promises Historically Faithful AI 'Odyssey' Film, Offers Funds for Mel Gibson Version

Tech mogul Elon Musk has announced ambitious plans to create an AI-generated film adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey," promising a version that is "historically faithful" and "respectful of the art of Homer." The project, to be realized by his Grok AI before the end of the year, aims to offer a cinematic experience grounded in ancient accuracy.

Musk's venture into adapting the epic poem extends beyond AI. He has also pledged $100 million to fund a separate adaptation directed by Mel Gibson. This version would reportedly be filmed in "Homeric Greek" and feature extreme historical rigor in its ships, armor, weapons, and casting, echoing Gibson's approach in "The Passion of the Christ."

These initiatives come as Musk has publicly criticized Christopher Nolan's recent film adaptation of "The Odyssey." He specifically took issue with the casting of Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, calling the decision "scandalous" and a betrayal of the ancient texts. Musk argued that such choices demonstrate a loss of integrity by the filmmakers.

Despite Musk's strong opinions and the controversy surrounding casting choices in modern adaptations, "The Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan has achieved significant commercial success. The film marked the third-best opening of the year in the United States and has drawn nearly two million viewers in France within its first week, indicating a strong audience reception.
