Emergency in Bochum: 63-year-old drives one kilometer into subway tunnel

A bizarre incident unfolded in Bochum, Germany, when a 63-year-old woman drove her car into a subway tunnel, traveling about a kilometer before stopping. The unusual journey began when the woman, disoriented by an unspecified internal medical emergency, mistakenly entered the tunnel.

According to the Bochum fire department, the driver entered the underground tunnel from the above-ground tram tracks near the Vonovia Ruhrstadion. During her drive within the tunnel, she passed the "Planetarium" station. Fortunately, she did not encounter any oncoming trains during her subterranean excursion.

Firefighters located the vehicle and rescued the disoriented woman, who sustained no injuries during the drive. Her car was subsequently removed from the tunnel using a special trolley in a joint operation with the local transit authority. The incident led to a four-and-a-half-hour closure of the subway line between Ruhrstadion and the main train station.
