Emily Santos wins third silver for Panama, sets national record

Panamanian swimmer Emily Santos Silva concluded her participation in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games by winning a silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke. Her time of 2:29.19 minutes not only secured her a podium finish but also set a new national record in the event.

This silver medal marks Santos's third at the regional competition. She previously earned silvers in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:09.35) and the 50-meter breaststroke (31.81), facing strong competition from Mexico's Byanca Rodríguez in both.

The 21-year-old swimmer, who competes collegiately at Virginia Tech in the United States, has a strong track record. She previously won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke and silver in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción. Santos has also competed in two Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and is aiming for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Santos's consistent performance in the pool has made her a standout athlete for the Panamanian delegation. Her success contributes to Panama's overall medal count at the Santo Domingo 2026 Games, with swimming proving to be a productive discipline for the national team.
