Emirates cancels and delays Dubai-Jakarta flights after volcanic ash closes airport

Emirates has delayed or cancelled flights between Dubai and Jakarta after volcanic ash forced the temporary closure of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The airline said the affected flights operated on September 5 and 6, 2026. Indonesia suspended operations at six airports on Sunday after a volcanic eruption disrupted flights at the country’s main international airport outside Jakarta.

Ash from Mount Anak Krakatoa, more than 150 kilometres away, reached the area. The volcano erupted on Saturday, producing a fountain of lava and booming sounds that could be heard up to 700 kilometres away.

Emirates said it was monitoring the situation and would provide further updates. It advised passengers to check their flight status before travelling to the airport and to keep their contact details updated through its Manage Your Booking portal. An airline spokesperson said, “Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and crew remains our highest priority and will not be compromised.”
