UAE search-and-rescue team begins field operations in Nepal’s Rasuwa area

The UAE Search and Rescue Team has begun field operations in Nepal's Rasuwa area after devastating floods and landslides damaged villages and essential infrastructure.

Working directly with Nepalese authorities, the team is conducting searches and field surveys at affected sites. It is using advanced equipment and technology, as well as drones for aerial photography, surveying and the production of three-dimensional maps.

The tools are intended to help responders reach affected areas and identify locations where searches should take place. The operation is continuing alongside the UAE's humanitarian and relief assistance to Nepal.

Hamoud Al Afari, director of UAE relief operations, said the team's deployment reflected the UAE's commitment to using its capabilities and expertise to support people affected by the disaster. “We are coordinating with the Nepalese authorities to direct search and rescue capabilities to the areas most in need, while making use of the advanced technologies available to the team to support and accelerate search operations and efforts to locate missing persons,” he said.

The team has continued its work despite the difficulty of reaching areas and villages where floods and landslides destroyed basic infrastructure and necessities.
