Emirati oil ships attacked in Strait of Hormuz; UAE blames Iran

Two ships owned by the state-run Emirati oil company Adnoc fell victim to an attack in the Strait of Hormuz, though no injuries were reported, according to the official Emirati news agency WAM. Details regarding any damage to the vessels remain unclear.

The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the incident, directly accusing Iran and asserting that the attack flagrantly violates UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds the freedom of navigation. Abu Dhabi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such assaults on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz constitute "acts of piracy" by Iran's Revolutionary Guards. The ministry further warned that these actions pose a direct threat to regional stability, its inhabitants, and global energy security.

The UAE urged Iran to cease these "unprovoked attacks" and ensure the complete reopening of the vital waterway. The conflict initiated by the US and Israel against Iran in late February has brought shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global trade, to a near standstill. Both sides are engaged in efforts to fully reopen the effectively blocked strait, but success has been elusive. Iran has recently stipulated conditions for reopening, including an end to all US threats, the lifting of the naval blockade on Iranian ports, the withdrawal of US forces from the region, and full compensation for war damages.
