Emirati Salma Al Marri breaks national women’s record for hammer throw at World Athletics Championships in America

Emirati athlete Salma Haitham Al Marri has shattered the national record for the women's hammer throw, achieving a remarkable 58.96 meters at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. This new mark surpasses the previous record of 58.12 meters and was set during the qualifiers, where Al Marri competed against elite international athletes.

Salma Al Marri delivered an impressive competitive performance against the world’s elite athletes and succeeded in achieving a new record that reflects the significant development in her level and technical abilities.

Rashid Naser Al Ali, a member of the UAE Athletics Federation's Board of Directors, confirmed Al Marri's impressive performance. He noted that she finished 13th out of 22 athletes globally, outperforming competitors from nations with strong throwing traditions like Poland, Denmark, and Spain. Although she narrowly missed qualifying for the final, her achievement underscores significant progress in her technical abilities and competitive level.

Al Ali highlighted Al Marri's rapid improvement, noting her throw of 49.02 meters in Slovenia last year, which broke a previous national record across youth, junior, and senior levels. Her current record of 58.96 meters, achieved at the World Championships against a diverse international field, signals substantial potential for future success, especially as she remains in the junior category.

Achieving this mark at the World Championships, against elite athletes from different continents, represents an important indication of her abilities and future potential, particularly as she is still in the junior category and has significant room for development and competition for higher positions worldwide.

In addition to Al Marri's record, sprinter Suleiman Abdul Rahman also made a notable appearance, qualifying for the 400-meter semifinals. He finished third in his qualifying heat with a time of 46.68 seconds and improved to 46.27 seconds in the semifinals, finishing fourth in his heat and narrowly missing a spot in the final. These performances are viewed as positive indicators of the growing strength and development of athletics in the UAE.
