Encarnación Book Fair Opens Tuesday With Six Days of Culture and Literature

The Encarnación Book Fair returns Tuesday with six days of books, music, art and conversations under the theme “Reading and Culture for Peace.” The event will take place at the urban campus of the Autonomous University of Encarnación, known as UNAE, from Sept. 1 through Sept. 6.

The opening day will run from 1 p.m., while activities on the remaining days are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free. The program is designed for families and includes book launches, meetings with readers, lectures, discussions, workshops, exhibitions and academic and scientific activities.

Children and young people will have their own literature programming, alongside theater, music and other artistic events. Writers, researchers and cultural figures from Paraguay, Argentina and the United States are expected to participate. The program also includes activities connected with Japan, Germany and Ukraine.

A featured program on Sept. 4 will focus on Augusto Roa Bastos. Daniel Balderston, a critic, essayist, translator and university professor who studies the work of Jorge Luis Borges and Roa Bastos, will join Mirta Roa, director of the Augusto Roa Bastos Foundation. They will take part in a discussion titled “Roa’s Lost Books: Recovered Treasure” and present “The Europe Augusto Roa Bastos Saw: Unpublished Documents.”

Other listed participants include Javier Viveros, Milia Gayoso Manzur, Alejandro Hernández, Feliciano Acosta, Verónica Abente, Luisa Moreno Sartorio, Ricardo Scavone Yegros, Benjamín Fernández Bogado and Teresa Méndez-Faith. The fair is organized by the UNAE Complex, which brings together the Divina Esperanza Institute, Divina Esperanza School and UNAE.
