End of Letter Delivery in Denmark Hits PostNord's Profits

PostNord's decision to discontinue its letter delivery operations in Denmark continues to impact the company's bottom line, leading to a significant drop in profit for the first six months of 2026. The postal service group reported a net profit of 126 million Swedish kronor for the period, a sharp decrease from the 310 million kronor earned in the first half of the previous year. The group's total net sales amounted to approximately 18 billion Swedish kronor.

The Danish segment of PostNord experienced an operating deficit of 246 million Swedish kronor during the first half of 2026. The company attributes this loss primarily to the end of its 400-year-old letter delivery service in Denmark at the turn of the year. According to PostNord's CEO, Annemarie Gardshol, this cessation has "resulted in lost synergies in Denmark between the parcel business and the former letter business."

PostNord, formed in 2009 by the merger of Sweden's Posten AB and Denmark's Post Danmark, is jointly owned by the Danish and Swedish states. Sweden holds a 60 percent stake, while Denmark owns 40 percent. The company's strategic focus has now shifted to its parcel operations in Denmark, with the stated goal of providing customers with the market's leading parcel offerings.
