Uber to Acquire Delivery Hero for $97 Billion, Expanding Global Reach

Global transportation giant Uber is set to significantly expand its reach by acquiring German food delivery company Delivery Hero in a deal valued at approximately 13 billion euros ($97 billion).

This strategic move will extend Uber's operational platform to a total of 99 countries worldwide. The acquisition follows Uber's recent launch of its food delivery service, Uber Eats, in Denmark.

The transaction, however, is contingent upon receiving necessary approvals and is not anticipated to be finalized until the latter half of 2027. To mitigate potential competition issues and geographical overlap, SSW Partners will acquire Delivery Hero's operations in 14 markets, including Norway and Sweden.

Delivery Hero, a major player in the global food delivery sector operating in over 60 markets, previously attempted to enter the Danish market with Foodora but withdrew in early 2024. As part of the agreement, Uber has committed to maintaining Delivery Hero's Berlin headquarters and its workforce until 2029. Uber already holds a significant stake in Delivery Hero, exceeding one-third control through existing shares and derivatives.
