'Enough is enough': Jamaat-i-Islami announces 510 nationwide sit-ins against the petroleum levy

Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman announced on Thursday that the party will hold peaceful sit-ins at 510 locations across the country on Friday. These protests target the government's petroleum levy, which has driven up fuel prices and contributed to inflation.

Rehman warned that the demonstrations would escalate into a broader movement to overthrow the government if authorities attempt to block the peaceful protests. He stated that major roads connecting districts would be blocked from 4 p.m. onwards, with exceptions made for ambulances. The party leader also demanded that the price of petrol be reduced to Rs225 per litre.

If obstacles are created or our peaceful protest against the petroleum levy is blocked, this campaign will turn into an anti-government movement.

The announcement came during a protest rally by the JI Women's Wing in Lahore, where speakers vehemently opposed the rising fuel costs. JI leaders Advocate Ziauddin Ansari, Dr. Humaira Tariq, Samiha Raheel Qazi, Samina Saeed, and Uzma Imran also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the party's stance against the government's economic policies.
