Enugu State Governor approves recruitment of 6,500 teachers

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has given the green light for the recruitment of more than 6,500 qualified candidates to fill various positions in the state's public schools. This significant hiring initiative aims to bolster the educational sector by bringing in new talent for academic, technical, and administrative roles.

The recruitment drive specifically targets public primary and secondary schools throughout Enugu State. It also encompasses the 267 Smart Green Schools, a key initiative under Governor Mbah's administration. Professor Hyginus Banko, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), stated that this move aligns with the administration's commitment to providing the necessary human resources to drive the Smart Green School project and ensure quality education delivery across the state.

To be eligible for degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) positions, candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Education, or a relevant Bachelor's Degree/HND, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. A Nigerian Certificate in Education in specified subject areas is also required. Mandatory registration or proof of ongoing registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is essential. Vacancies will also be available for holders of the Ordinary National Diploma and Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in relevant capacities. Applicants must also have a valid NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate and demonstrate proficiency in Information and Communication Technology tools. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, August 14, 2026.
