Enugu State Govt approves massive infrastructural, tourism projects

The Enugu State Government has greenlit a series of major projects spanning infrastructure, tourism, and housing, signaling a significant push for development. The State Executive Council (SEC) approved initiatives including the construction of a 10.5km road, 1,000 housing units at Enugu Smart City, and 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate. Additionally, plans are in motion to build the Ovu Lake Golf Resort and install cable cars at Okpatu, Awhum, and Awgu.

These developments are part of the administration's ambitious vision to expand the state's economy from $4 billion to $30 billion within eight years. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ben Osy Okoh, detailed the SEC's approval for the completion and modernization of Wings C and D of the Enugu State Secretariat Complex, along with extensive rehabilitation of the existing Wings A and B. He noted the dilapidated state of the uncompleted wings since their initial construction phase.

Further addressing housing needs, the state is developing 1,000 fully detached terrace housing units and the 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate, which will include integrated road infrastructure and essential services like water and electricity. The government also approved immediate repairs for flash flood points on the Nsukka major road and five adjoining streets, responding to recent flooding issues in the Nsukka area.
