Enugu traders, motorists get ultimatum to clear roads

Roadside traders in the Abakpa Nike area of Enugu have been given a seven-day ultimatum to clear the roads. The Enugu State Ministry of Transport issued the warning on Wednesday, emphasizing the need to free up roadways that have been obstructed by trading activities.

In addition to the traders, the ministry is cracking down on one-way driving. Motorists caught violating traffic laws by driving against the flow of traffic will face vehicle impoundment and fines. Commissioner for Transport, Obi Ozor, stated that the campaign is currently focused on public sensitization but warned that strict enforcement will begin after the grace period expires.

The ministry has intensified its campaign along major corridors, including Ukwu Aki, Texaco, Nowas, T-Junction, and Nkwo. These areas have seen persistent traffic violations and obstructions that hinder the free flow of traffic. Ozor urged motorists, traders, and residents to cooperate with the state government's efforts to enhance safety and accessibility in Abakpa.
