'Environment Guardians' initiative intensifies efforts to protect Dhofar's natural sites

The Environment Authority's 'Environment Guardians' initiative is actively working across Oman's Dhofar Governorate to safeguard natural sites and encourage environmentally responsible conduct during the popular Khareef season. This ongoing campaign involves collaboration with the Dhofar Municipality and the Royal Oman Police.

Recent statistics from July 16 highlight the initiative's tangible progress. A significant effort involved removing 266 vehicles from green spaces to prevent damage to vegetation. Additionally, 65 locations identified as environmentally sensitive have been closed off to protect them from potential harm.

The initiative has also been responsive to public concerns, handling 26 reports of environmental violations. Furthermore, it documented 13 instances of overflowing waste bins and addressed seven cases of stranded vehicles. To foster a culture of environmental stewardship, four media awareness activities have been conducted, aiming to educate visitors on preserving Dhofar's unique natural environment.

The Environment Authority emphasized that this initiative underscores its commitment to protecting the governorate's ecosystems, particularly during the peak tourist season. The efforts aim to raise public awareness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, thereby promoting the long-term sustainability of Dhofar's natural landscapes.
