Environment minister reviews eco-investment projects in Sharm El-Sheikh

Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, is spearheading efforts to bolster Sharm El-Sheikh and the nation's nature reserves as premier eco-tourism hubs.

During a meeting with businessman Hossam El-Shaer, chairman of the Sunrise Group, Awad reviewed the progress of several environmental investment projects. These initiatives are designed to enhance the status of Sharm El-Sheikh and its natural reserves, aligning with Egypt's strategy to promote sustainable investment and eco-tourism.

A key project involves the redevelopment of Sharm El-Sheikh's Peace Park. This initiative aims to transform the park's green zone, a legacy from the COP27 climate conference, into a modern sanctuary. The design emphasizes the intersection of nature, creativity, and cultural experiences, utilizing native plants, promoting water efficiency, and employing sustainable materials to minimize ecological impact.

Additionally, Awad received an update on the second phase of developing the visitor center at Ras Mohammed Nature Reserve. Following the successful completion of the first phase, this next stage focuses on preserving the site's unique architectural and environmental character. The goal is to create an integrated destination offering environmental awareness, recreation, and high-quality tourism services, reinforcing the reserve's international standing.

The minister also highlighted the importance of developing beaches within the Nabq Nature Reserve to establish a luxury natural beach experience that harmonizes with the surrounding environment. These developments are expected to increase visitor numbers and reinforce Egypt's position as a leader in environmental and tourism destinations.
