EPL: Newcastle fight back from two goals down to extend unbeaten run against Bournemouth

Newcastle turned a two-goal deficit into a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, preserving an unbeaten start during a period of major change at the club.

Bournemouth took control by the 35th minute. Marcus Tavernier reacted quickest to a deflected effort from Alex Scott, poking the ball past Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek. The visitors then doubled their lead when Justin Kluivert’s shot struck the post and rebounded off Hornicek before Scott’s cross deflected off Malick Thiaw and looped into the net.

Newcastle responded almost immediately. Harvey Barnes surged down the left, cut inside and curled a superb shot beyond Djordje Petrovic less than two minutes after Bournemouth’s second goal. The home side struggled to build momentum after the break, but substitute Jacob Ramsey stayed composed in the 88th minute when Bournemouth failed to clear, steering the ball home to secure a point.

The draw followed Newcastle’s 2-2 result against Liverpool in their Premier League opener and a 2-0 victory over Tottenham. The club appointed German coach Matthias Jaissle last month after the departure of long-serving manager Eddie Howe, who previously managed Bournemouth. Newcastle have also lost Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, while adding eight players during what the club called a “transformational” summer transfer window.

Bournemouth, now coached by Marco Rose after Andoni Iraola left for Liverpool, started brightly but again conceded late. Newcastle remained unbeaten in all competitions this season, while new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo received warm applause after coming on in the 63rd minute.
