Ogunsakin stuns top seed to qualify for US Open junior main draw

Oluwaseun Ogunsakin has secured a place in the 2026 US Open Junior Championships main draw after producing another composed performance in qualifying. The 14-year-old Nigerian defeated top seed Felix Roussel of Canada 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.

Ogunsakin controlled the match from the opening set, taking it 6-3 before maintaining his momentum to close out the second 6-4. The win completed a perfect qualifying campaign, with the teenager advancing without dropping a set.

Representing Aurum Tennis Academy, Ogunsakin began his campaign with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory over Poland’s Tymon Litwic. The result against Roussel now gives him a place among the players competing in the boys’ singles main draw at the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.

The US Open will be Ogunsakin’s third consecutive junior Grand Slam appearance. He began his Grand Slam journey at the Roland Garros Junior Championships before competing at Wimbledon, where he reached the boys’ singles main draw and advanced to the doubles semifinals.

The main draws will feature 64 players in each singles competition, while 32 teams will compete in each doubles event. Ogunsakin will now turn his attention to the main draw and the opportunity to continue his progress against the world’s leading young players.
