Epsom incident: Five people injured, one person arrested, section of Manukau Rd closed during morning rush hour

A serious incident in Auckland's Epsom suburb left five people injured early Monday morning, prompting a significant police response. The event occurred around 7 a.m., causing disruptions during the morning rush hour.

Authorities confirmed one person is in custody. Emergency services reported one individual in critical condition, another in serious condition, and one in moderate condition. Two others received treatment at the scene. Three injured individuals were transported by ambulance to Auckland City Hospital.

Police have established cordons on Manukau Road between Ranfurly Road and Queen Mary Avenue, as well as a closure from Campbell Crescent to Puriri Drive. An increased police presence is expected in the area as investigations continue. Bus services heading into the city were diverted to navigate around the scene.

Four police cars, three ambulances, and a fire engine were observed near Cornwall Park. Fire and Emergency confirmed sending one truck to assist police, but has since left the scene, referring further inquiries to the police. Further information is expected shortly.
