Epstein Arranged Sham Marriage for Belarusian Dentist to Stay in U.S., Report Says

Financier Jeffrey Epstein allegedly orchestrated a sham same-sex marriage for a Belarusian dentist friend to ensure she could stay in the United States. Karyna Shuliak, who was Epstein's last known female contact before his death, was reportedly facing deportation after her student visa expired.

According to U.S. Department of Justice emails and reporting by The New York Times, Epstein leveraged New York's same-sex marriage laws, which were legalized in 2011, to facilitate the marriage. He suggested to Shuliak in a 2013 email that a same-sex marriage would be the quickest route to a green card.

Epstein reportedly selected his own assistant, a 30-year-old Minnesota resident, to be Shuliak's spouse. The two women officially married in October 2013. Shuliak's green card application was approved, and she became a U.S. citizen in May 2018, though she and her spouse later divorced.

A report by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform characterized the marriage as a sham, noting that Shuliak was allegedly shocked to discover the proceedings for her deportation case were to begin just days after the ceremony. While the committee did not recommend legal action to revoke her U.S. citizenship, the report highlighted Epstein's manipulation of the legal system.
