Erdogan comments on Mecca Joint Defense Agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that a joint defense agreement signed in Mecca between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan marks a significant stride in security and defense collaboration. He emphasized on the X platform that the agreement operates on the principle of collective deterrence and is not directed against any nation.

This agreement is based on the principle of collective deterrence and aims to strengthen security and defense cooperation, develop joint projects in the defense industries, and contribute to the fight against terrorism.

Erdogan detailed his visit to Mecca at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the visit, he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, leading to the signing of the defense pact. The agreement is designed to bolster security and defense cooperation, foster joint projects in the defense industry, and contribute to counter-terrorism efforts.

Today, I visited Mecca in response to the gracious invitation of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Turkish President highlighted that the agreement upholds the right to legitimate self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It remains open to accession by friendly nations committed to promoting regional security, prosperity, and stability. Turkey, demonstrating regional responsibility, will continue its diplomatic approach to resolving conflicts through dialogue and respect for international law. Erdogan concluded by expressing hope that the visit and agreement would bring blessings to the region.
