Erick Thohir Motivates Indonesia’s Badminton Squad Ahead of 2026 Asian Games

Sports Minister Erick Thohir met Indonesia’s badminton squad in Jakarta and delivered a simple message before the team leaves for the 2026 Asian Games: stay focused.

Deputy Sports Minister Taufik Hidayat and Deputy for Sports Achievement Improvement Surono also attended the meeting on Wednesday. Speaking to Alwi Farhan and his teammates, Erick said, “Focus on the Asian Games, see you there.”

The Indonesian Badminton Association has named 20 players for the Games, with 10 men and 10 women. The men’s squad includes Jonatan Christie, Alwi Farhan, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, Muhamad Yusuf, Fajar Alfian, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, Leo Rolly Carnando, Daniel Marthin, Nikolaus Joaquin and Amri Syahnawi.

The selection of this squad followed a comprehensive evaluation. We looked at each player’s performance, physical and technical condition, as well as the team’s needs. From there, we determined the composition most suited to Indonesia’s targets and needs at the Asian Games.

The women’s squad includes Putri Kusuma Wardani, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan, Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari, Rachel Allessya Rose, Febi Setianingrum, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma, Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Nita Violina Marwah.

Eng Hian said the selection followed a comprehensive evaluation of each player’s performance, physical condition and technical ability, as well as the team’s needs. He said the inclusion of Fadia and Joaquin formed part of a strategy to pursue the men’s team gold medal and deliver the best possible result in the women’s team event.
