Erik Lira says he was "re-made" at Cruz Azul, forgetting Pumas past

Cruz Azul captain Erik Lira has declared he was "re-made" at the club, emphasizing his strong connection to the team that provided his professional breakthrough.

Lira, who has become a key figure and a multiple champion with Cruz Azul since joining in 2022, acknowledged his formative years in the Pumas youth academy. However, he stated in an interview with Cruz Azul that his development into a first-division player and his subsequent call-up to the Mexican national team, including playing in a World Cup, were facilitated by his time at "La Noria," Cruz Azul's training ground.

"Today, what is Cruz Azul? It is my home, it is the one that noticed me when I wasn't even considered a First Division player, and it's who I've given everything to," Lira said. He highlighted the "good, bad, very bad, very good, excellent" experiences at the club, underscoring its role in his career.

As speculation mounts about a potential move to European football, possibly with Monaco, Lira reflected on how he wishes to be remembered. He hopes to be recalled as the captain who won the "Décima" (10th league title) at his former team's stadium and as a resilient individual who always gave his all on the field.
