Erlan Karin becomes First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration

Erlan Karin has been appointed as the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan, according to a decree from the Head of State. This appointment follows his previous role as State Counselor, a position President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had previously announced plans to abolish. Karin, a political scientist and scholar, brings extensive experience to the role. His career includes work as a history and geography teacher, a lecturer, and various research and advisory positions. He has also been involved in anti-terrorism efforts and held leadership roles in political parties and research institutes. Karin's prior positions include serving as an advisor to the Prime Minister, Head of the Internal Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Secretary of the Nur Otan party, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies, and Assistant to the President for Political Affairs. His most recent role before this appointment was State Counselor, a position he held since June 2022.
