Escalators at Oslo Metro station frequently stop, causing commuter frustration

Commuters in Oslo are facing persistent disruptions due to malfunctioning escalators, particularly at the busy Stortinget Metro station. A defective brake disc has halted one of the station's escalators, requiring a special order for replacement parts and an estimated three-week repair period.

The brake disc had to be specially ordered, which unfortunately means extra waiting time. We will start the work to repair the escalator as soon as possible. The actual work will then take about three weeks.

This is not an isolated incident. In Nydalen, a significant water leak in January caused water damage and subsequent escalator failures. Sporveien has replaced the automatic control systems, expressing optimism that this will resolve the ongoing issues.

It is a large and extensive upgrade, and therefore the work unfortunately takes time.

The public transport authority notes that escalator stoppages are a common problem, occurring two to four times weekly in the summer and even more frequently in winter. Debris, such as grit from shoes, often gets trapped in the mechanisms. Measures like anti-skid mats have been installed at Stortinget station to mitigate this issue.

It was a major water leak from the center above the station in January. After that, we have had challenges with water damage, which has caused several consequential errors. This has unfortunately caused it to be out of order quite a bit lately.
