‘Escape wizard’ who broke out of four jails arrested in Spain

Spanish police have apprehended a highly resourceful Albanian fugitive, dubbed the “escape wizard,” in the northeastern city of Tarragona. The man, identified by the initials TT, is known for his audacious escapes from four different prisons across Italy and Belgium.

His methods were as varied as they were daring. Authorities reported that he sawed through prison bars, scaled walls using knotted sheets, and even utilized a human pyramid to breach prison defenses. His criminal record includes violent robbery, theft, and drug dealing, for which he was serving a sentence in Italy that was not due to end until 2048.

The fugitive's most recent escape occurred in December 2025 from a maximum-security prison in Italy. He reportedly sawed through bars and climbed out of a window using knotted sheets. His capture on August 21 involved resistance from associates, with one individual injuring two officers while attempting to prevent the arrest.

Upon his arrest, the suspect was found with fake identity documents and was carrying counterfeit banknotes. He also had a criminal record in Girona for weapons and explosives possession. He has been denied bail and awaits extradition to Italy, while authorities continue to search for his associates.
