Estonian woman traveled to the other side of the world to assist earthquake victims

Kairi Pruul, an expert in international crisis management and humanitarian aid from the Estonian Rescue Board, recently returned from a mission in Venezuela. She was deployed following a devastating twin earthquake that struck the region. Pruul's primary role during the mission was as an information management expert.

Her responsibilities included collecting, analyzing, and consolidating information coming from the crisis-stricken area. This critical task aimed to provide European Union decision-makers with a clear overview of the evolving situation. By ensuring accurate and timely data, Pruul's work helped facilitate the effective distribution of aid to those most in need.

Pruul recalled the harrowing experience, stating, "My only thought was that I hoped these people got out of that house before it collapsed like a pancake." Estonia participated in the mission as part of the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism, sending one expert to aid in the response.
