ESUT suspends three law students for two years over exam malpractice

Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has suspended three law undergraduates for two academic years over examination malpractice, a decision that took effect on June 25, 2026.

The suspension, which took effect from 25 June 2026, will run until 24 June 2028.

The university's Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, issued separate memos to the affected students, informing them of the suspension which will last until June 24, 2028. The decision was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, acting on behalf of the University Senate, following recommendations from the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee.

The affected students, comprising two males and one female, are Isong Ugwu, with registration No. ESUT/2023030212973; Gad Nwosu, registration No. ESUT/2022030203441; and Roseline Nnamani, registration No. ESUT/2024030219772.

The suspended students, identified as Isong Ugwu, Gad Nwosu, and Roseline Nnamani, were instructed to return any university property in their possession to their Heads of Department and leave the campus immediately. The National Universities Commission and the students' sponsors have also been informed of the university's disciplinary action.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, acting on behalf of the University Senate, approved the recommendations of the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee.

According to the registrar, the students will need to apply for readmission once their suspension period concludes in June 2028. In a separate case, another law student, Goodluck Iwuamadi, was exonerated from an allegation of examination malpractice, following the committee's recommendation.

The registrar directed the affected students to hand over any university property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department and vacate the university campus immediately.
