EU approves assistance to bolster Moldova's air defense

The European Union has approved a significant assistance package to bolster Moldova's air defense capabilities, aiming to enhance the nation's security. The Council of the European Union announced on Monday the approval of a 120 million euro measure designed to strengthen Moldova's military.

This initiative, funded through the European Peace Facility, will specifically finance a medium-range air defense system. The EU stated that this new support complements existing efforts in surveillance and aims to improve the operational effectiveness of the Moldovan Armed Forces. The ultimate goal is to enable Moldova to better protect its civilian population.

With this latest contribution, the total EU assistance to Moldova under the European Peace Facility now amounts to 317 million euros. Established in March 2021, the fund supports common foreign and security policy actions in military and defense matters. Its objective is to prevent conflicts, preserve peace, and strengthen international security and stability by bolstering the defense capacities of third countries and regional organizations.
