EU Commission: ChatGPT, Roblox Could Face Digital Services Act Rules

Artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT and the popular gaming platform Roblox could soon fall under the European Union's stringent Digital Services Act (DSA). A European Commission spokesperson confirmed that both services are candidates for designation as "very large online platforms" or "very large online search engines."

Thomas Regnier, a spokesperson for the Commission, stated that the designation is "definitely possible" and could occur "sooner or later." This potential inclusion stems from both ChatGPT and Roblox having reported user numbers that surpass the threshold set by the DSA. The act aims to create a safer digital space by holding large online platforms more accountable for the content they host.

Both ChatGPT and Roblox could potentially be included by the European Commission in the list of very large online platforms or search engines as defined by the Digital Services Act.

Platforms designated under the DSA are required to comply with a comprehensive set of rules and obligations.
