EU Summons Russian Envoy After Moscow Threatens Diplomats in Kyiv

The European Union has summoned Russia's envoy following Moscow's threats against foreign citizens and diplomats in Kyiv, calling it an "unacceptable escalation." An EU diplomatic mission will continue its operations in the capital, a spokesperson stated.

Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv quickly. Moscow claimed its forces intended to systematically attack military targets and "command posts" within the city. This warning came just a day after one of the most substantial attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the war began.

Over the weekend, Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 600 drones and 90 missiles targeting the Kyiv region. Residential buildings, commercial structures, water facilities, and museums were among the damaged sites. Ukrainian authorities confirmed two fatalities in the Kyiv region, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced 87 people were injured, including three minors.

Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed the use of its new medium-range "Orešnik" missile during the attack. This missile reportedly instills particular fear due to its destructive power and its capability to strike targets across a large part of Europe.
