EuroCup expands to 32 teams with new playoff format

The EuroCup basketball competition is set for a significant overhaul, expanding to include 32 teams next season. This decision, made by EuroLeague during a recent meeting, aims to reshape the tournament into a more robust and appealing product for all stakeholders.

The revamped format will see teams divided into four groups of eight. The top 16 teams from the regular season will then advance to a knockout stage, featuring best-of-three series in the "Round of 16," quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. This structure is designed to increase competitive interest and the number of high-stakes games.

EuroLeague officials stated that club selection will be based on final domestic league standings, with approximately 20 teams expected to secure five-year participation licenses. This move is intended to foster greater stability for clubs, enabling long-term planning and investment.

Greek teams Aris and PAOK are among those expected to participate, ensuring strong representation for Greece in the new era of the EuroCup.
