Europa League Qualifiers: Górnik Zabrze suffers minimal defeat in Budapest, retains hope

Górnik Zabrze suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat against Hungarian side Ferencváros in Budapest during the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie. The Polish team, returning to European competitions after more than three decades, faced an opponent with significant recent European experience, including runs in the Champions League and Europa League.

Despite the disparity in experience, Górnik Zabrze played with courage and confidence, as promised by coach Michal Gasparik. The team aimed to control the match and play offensively. Although they started the game slower, Górnik created several scoring opportunities, particularly after the first water break in the second half. However, their finishing proved ineffective.

Ferencváros took the lead in the 65th minute through a long-range strike from Marius Corbu, capitalizing on a moment of defensive lapse. In the closing minutes, new signing Peter Federico had two chances to equalize for Górnik, but failed to convert either. The team now faces the challenge of overturning the one-goal deficit in the second leg at home.
