European defense giant opens industrial facility near Warsaw

MBDA has opened a facility near Warsaw that will service CAMM missile launchers for Poland’s Pilica Plus air-defense program, keeping repairs inside the country rather than sending equipment to Britain.

The Czosnów site was built in two years on a plot covering more than three hectares. Its two buildings measure nearly 4,000 square meters and around 900 square meters. Jim Price, president of MBDA Polska, said the facility’s main role would be the technical servicing and repair of launchers. It will not handle explosive materials, so the site will service launchers rather than missiles. Up to six batteries can undergo servicing at the same time.

Under signed agreements, MBDA is expected to provide 44 launchers for Pilica Plus, each carrying eight CAMM missiles. Fourteen launchers have so far been delivered, including six under the Mała Narew program, and all are due by the end of 2029.

The plant is part of Poland’s wider effort to build an integrated, multilayered air and missile defense system. The planned layers are Wisła, based on Patriot, Narew, Pilica Plus and San, the lowest layer aimed mainly at intercepting unmanned aircraft. Over several years, Polish defense companies are also expected to receive knowledge transfers that could support sovereign production of CAMM-ER missiles. Military Armament Works in Grudziądz will also play a role in launcher maintenance.

The investment is worth tens of millions of złoty and currently employs several dozen people. Rzeczpospolita described it as unusual because foreign defense giants in Poland have generally entered through acquisitions of existing facilities, rather than building plants from scratch.
