European Socialists back new Turkish party, citing democracy concerns

The Party of European Socialists (PES) has officially declared its support for Turkey's newly established YENİ Party, co-founded by Özgür Özel.

In a statement on its official X account, PES emphasized that "Democracy cannot be banned. It can only find new ways to make itself heard." The party views the formation of YENİ Party as a "new beginning for progressive and democratic forces in Turkey."

PES highlighted the increasing pressure on democracy, rule of law, and fundamental freedoms in Turkey. It affirmed that those who continue to defend these values deserve solidarity and support. The statement recognized the Republican People's Party (CHP) as a long-standing driving force for democratic and republican values in Turkey.
